Max's problem is not just that he is small but that everyone else is so big. In fact, it seems to Max that everyone he meets - from the smallest dog to the most familiar neighbour - grows and grows to monstrous proportions. Poor Max is so frightened that he doesn't even want to go outside, that is until Granny gives hi some magic of his own.
