Fat, ugly, vicious and smelly they may be, but pigs have a dignity and glamour all their own and there are a few animals that inspire such affection. Pigs were chosen as a Christmas theme for two consecutive years by Mayfair's Portal Gallery, specialists in naive, primitive and fantastic art, and these paintings are the result. Some of the pigs in Pig Parade live in farmyards, while others preside at dining-room tables. Some dress elegantly and recline on chaises lounges, or buy fattened people at auctions. Here, pigs not only fly, they climb trees and ride Hell's Angel motorbikes. Artists as creative as Beryl Cook and Kit Williams have contributed to Pig Parade, a brilliant tribute to the grotesque but irresistible fascination of pigs.
